CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION TO STUDENT TEACHING

 

 

During the semester prior to student teaching, the candidate must apply for admission to the Pikeville College Student Teaching Program.  The candidate must have already been admitted to the Pikeville College Teacher Education Program and must meet the criteria listed below.  (See Pikeville College’s Teacher Education Program Continuous Assessment Plan for further explanation of the criteria.)

The candidate must submit a formal application for admission to Pikeville College’s Student Teaching Program.

The candidate must satisfactorily complete all prerequisites to student teaching;

The candidate must have a minimum overall grade point average of 2.50 based on all work completed at Pikeville College;

The candidate must have completed all education courses (with the exception of student teaching) with a 2.50 and no grade lower than a “C;”

The candidate must have satisfactorily completed Phase I and Phase II of Clinical Experience;

The candidate must complete the interview for admission to the Pikeville College Student Teaching Program with a rating of proficient or better;

The candidate must complete the portfolio review for admission to the Pikeville College Student Teaching Program with a rating of proficient or better;

The candidate must demonstrate a current and sufficient academic knowledge of certified content area(s) by obtaining passing scores on Praxis II:  Subject Assessments/Specialty Area Test(s);

The candidate must submit three Admission to Student Teaching Candidate Disposition Assessment Forms;

The candidate must have developed an interest in all dispositions an effective teacher should possess and demonstrate this interest by obtaining a rating of proficient or better on the Dispositions Section of the portfolio review and interview;

The candidate must submit a valid and current physical examination report including tuberculin test;

The candidate must not violate the Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky School Personnel defined in 704 KAR 20:680 prior to and during the student teaching experience;

The candidate must submit Personal and Professional Fitness Form completed and signed.

The candidate must have passing scores on Praxis II:  Principles of Learning and Teaching Test(s);

The candidate must complete a criminal background check through the Justice Cabinet.  Check must not show any convictions that would disallow the candidate from serving as an employee in the school district where he/she will be placed for student teaching.

The candidate must be formally approved for admission to the Pikeville College Student Teaching Program by the Teacher Education Committee.
